pretend

a poem written to convey the feeling of loneliness/a lack of connection from the world.

pretend

I want to believe
That I am at a friend’s house,
Smoking their weed
And drinking their tea.
Dining in conversation,
Swimming in laughter.
We share our burdens,
And the weight we carry
Is somehow lighter.
We dine in cherished memories –
For soon this will be one of them.
And I’ll have an empty glass
Followed by an empty laugh
And the cool air of night
Will gently sway me home.
Along the corridor and
Around the corner,
I find I’m already here,
I’m kind of a loner.
